GB Coaching Offer Document
Guiding and interactive digital document that forms part of an annual programme of coach development opportunities. The Offer has been designed to provide support to coaches in identifying the best opportunities for them and their respective pathway, brought to life through videos and animations. Whether you’re a coach introducing someone to the game for the first time, working with a club side or coaching within a performance environment, the Offer is here to guide and support you to be the best you can be, for yourself and those you coach.

Workshops How to Coach & What to Coach:
The What to Coach workshops are for coaches who have prior knowledge of “how” to coach and the Golden Thread through attendance at one of the following and would like more support and ideas on how to embed this into different principles of the game:
Introduction to Hockey
Engaging Games For Children
Coaching For Club Players
Integrating GKs
This course is suitable for those who coach hockey sessions to children or adults through Back2Hockey, After School Clubs, Summer Camps and Adult Club Participation. Coaches may also find this course beneficial if they are supporting sessions in a Hockey programme (i.e. Club Team, JDC, JAC, School Team).
On successful completion of the course, e-portfolio and assessment coaches will have the skills and experience necessary to be able to deliver hockey sessions independently. Coaches will also be required to have attended a face-to-face safeguarding course before being certified.
England Hockey also recommend all coaches hold a relevant First Aid certificate, DBS and appropriate insurance cover.
This course is suitable for people who are the regular coach of a hockey programme (i.e. Club Team or School Team over a season, JDC or JAC).

What to Coach: Workshops
The workshops are for coaches who have prior knowledge of “how” to coach.
What to coach: Goal Scoring – coaches will see what to deliver in a session on the development theme of Goal Scoring. Coaches will share practice design ideas that invite lots of opportunities for the players to take the best option to go forward and score goals in all sorts of ways. There will be lots of examples of fun and game like activity that drives the players to be highly skilled and creative with their actions.
What to coach: Attacking – coaches will see what to deliver in a session on the Principles of Attacking. Coaches will share practice design ideas that invite lots of opportunities for the players to take the best option to go forward and score. This workshop will bring to life the link between Principles and Development Themes and further highlight what coaches should prioritise in their sessions to create effective decision makers.
What to coach: Defending – coaches will see what to deliver in a session on the Principles of Defending. Coaches will share practice design ideas that invite lots of opportunities for the players to stop the oppositions go forward by denying space. This workshop will bring to life the link between Principles and Development Themes and further highlight what coaches should prioritise in their sessions to create effective decision makers.
What to coach: Goalkeepers - coaches will get ideas on how to create practice design on what to coach goalkeepers alongside a rich understanding of the National Development Themes for goalkeepers. Replicate appropriate learning environments to bring game like scenarios to life on a regular basis . Create variations to existing practices to develop a suite of activities for goalkeepers of all levels. Demonstrate that all players can work and develop together when developing skills

There’s one for Quicksticks and three for In2Hockey which includes GKs and umpiring. On completion the participant gets a certificate. It’s easy to complete, might take between 1hr and 1 hr 30 in total.

Safeguarding

England Hockey's online 'Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Hockey' course provides basic safeguarding awareness and is available to everyone in the hockey community. However it is advised that it should be completed by: DBS Co-ordinators/verifiers, Development Co-ordinators, Chairmen, Umpires, Parent Helpers, Team Captains/Nominated player of an adult team with U18s and Coaches who currently do not hold any qualifications. This course can be found on the Hockey Hub and costs £10.

UK Coaching’s 'Safeguarding and Protecting Children' (SPC) workshop is essential for Welfare Officers and Coaches. This is a face-to-face workshop lasting three hours. Upcoming courses can be found here.

LBHC require all coaching staff to undertake the England Hockey Equality & Diversity Basic Awareness Online training.
The training and assessment can be undertaken in the inclusion & Diversity section of the England Hockey Hockey Hub Resource and it's free.

Miscellaneous Training
Volunteers supporting the Club's Open Days are invited to take the HSE's on line courses covering manual handling and Slips, Trips and Falls as are any other volunteers that may be involved in carrying equipment or other items for purposes such as coaching or other hockey related activities.
